Renovation Brothers

The 2 boys and I had a very busy day today. The 3 of us pretty much spent the whole day outside. I think the only time that I ventured inside was to stock up on more food for the kids and to grab a glass of water. I had a really great day and I'm pretty sure that the kids did too. I had 2 lessons in life reiterated to me today. The first one being that whatever you put in you get back. I did everything with the kids today. We played and played and talked and talked. Both boys asked lots of questions and I gave lots of answers. We worked together to solve problems if they couldn't do something. We found answers to life and overall had a fantastic time. It's all about what you put in. I was amazed all day today how smart my 2 boys are. They think and work out a solution. They speak beautifully and are just really great kids. Normally the 3 of us aren't so keen to stay at home for most of the day, but this week because we have done so little of it, we loved it. My second lesson in life reiterated to me today was really just a carry on from my first lesson- set the foundation up and you'll have a really good base for the future. That's how I see it with the kids. My husband and I try to support them in being independent, smart thinking little people and as a result they are really good boys. It's amazing to see them learn so vehemently from you. They are truly little sponges.

By 11am I had a thought that maybe the 2 boys and I could drive out to the recycling treasure market just near the rubbish tip. I said to the 2 boys that we could get some timber and paint their names on it and hang it up in their playground. They loved the idea. Off we went with plenty of time to spare once we arrived at the market. Brandon and Bailey have been there before but only briefly a long time ago. They absolutely loved it. We looked at everything in the recycling yard. We found the perfect timber planks for our adventure. In fact we bought 3 planks. Brandon chose an old fold up wine storage shelf and Bailey chose to buy a big car while I got the 3 planks of timber. All up it cost me $8.00. A true bargain.

When we arrived home, I managed to convince the kids that we had to have lunch first and a drink of water before we embark upon our renovating. They were chomping at the bit to begin. They gobbled up a veggie wrap each and off they went. We ate lunch outside so they didn't have far to go to move over to their playground. I grabbed the timber, my power drill, screws and the leveller and away we went. I ended up building a safety guard for one edge of the playground which I then turned into a ladder with the other 2 planks. I was really proud of myself. I love building and renovating and by the absolute delight on the boy's faces I think they felt the same way. I had 2 wonderful helpers. They were passing me screws and watching me intently. Once I'd finished building, the 2 boys climbed up their new ladder over and over again. The first time Bailey climbed up, he jumped up and said "It works!" He was so cute. I'd already climbed up and I thought if it can hold me it would be OK with the boys. Once daddy arrived home, both boys were so excited to show him what we had just built. Daddy loved it. Brandon loved the drill. Bailey loved the silver screws.

I spent the evening at work while my husband kept playing with the boys outside. They had dinner and then were bathed before I finished up at work. My husband had a rest while I read and read and read some more to the boys before then putting them to bed. I wouldn't be surprised if both Brandon and Bailey tonight dream of building. Already they tell me they want to buy houses. I'm all for that! Have fun and love what you're doing.
