3 Ways To Dry Underpants

30 minutes before the 2 boys and I planned to march out the door, I realised Brandon didn't have any clean underpants. He had the 1 pair on and that was it. He still needed 2 backup pairs for the day at Kindergarten. So I learnt today that our washing machine can wash underpants in 20 minutes. The only problem was that the sunshine, while very hot this morning, wasn't going to dry them completely in 5 minutes, so I resorted to the dryer. 5 minutes later the underpants were still wet, although the dripping wetness edge had been taken off them. They still weren't dry enough to put on a bottom let alone in a bag, so I had to think of a way where the underpants would be able to continue their drying process. Luckily it was a sunny day because my only option was to spread both pairs over the front passenger seat and let the sun dry them. It looked ridiculous. I am sure the truck drivers in the peak hour traffic that we got stuck in for the next 40 minutes were looking very strangely at us. Once we arrived at Kindergarten the undies were pretty much dry. Success. I will have to remember that for next time, and I am sure there will be a next time.

Today I had trouble dragging Bailey away from Brandon's Kindergarten. He just wanted to play in the giant sand pit with trucks and dinosaurs. So I scooped him up and farewelled Brandon who was already playing with his friends and some toys. Bailey and I went and got some petrol and then came back home where I frantically tidied up the house. I had sweat pouring off me even though we had the air conditioner on. I certainly wouldn't normally be doing housework then but we had another valuer coming through the house from the bank. I wiped the sweat from my brow and opened the door to the gentleman. This valuer was very different to any of the others that we had ever dealt with. First noticeable difference was that he didn't have a clipboard and the second difference was he didn't look like he had constipation. He was actually friendly and interested and ended up giving us the best valuation that we have ever had. Of course they don't tell you the price, you have to find out from alternative sources.

Bailey and I then headed to Kmart to buy some birthday presents for Bailey, and we also bought the Hungry Hungry Hippos game for Brandon. I had said to Brandon that I would only buy the game for him once he had had a dry night from bed wetting, but as I wiped poo off his bottom and his legs this morning when he asked me again for the game, I told him I would get it as he had been such a very great boy at Kindergarten. I was very proud of him. I also reinstated that wees and poos do not go in underpants, nor on your legs or feet or on the floor.

I bought some Thomas The Tank Engine trains for Bailey. Encouraging the obsession but that's what he loves. It is so much easier shopping with only 1 child. I can't believe I used to think it was so hard when daddy and I just had Brandon. And while shopping without children would be even easier, at least 1 is easier than 2. Bailey and I returned home and Bailey actually had a sleep. I did what I had been planning to do in my mind for such a long time- I sat down and watched day time TV. I even watched Oprah while folding copious amounts of washing. After about 12 ads in a row and then a little bit of Oprah and then 12 ads again, the novelty wore off. So I got my work room ready and then went and woke up a sleeping Bailey so that we could go and get Brandon.

Brandon had had a great day at Kindergarten. He told me he had had a sleep. Silently I was hoping that he hadn't because then he would go to sleep easier tonight. I checked with his teacher and was relieved to find out that he hadn't slept but had just sat on his little bed. I warned the teachers last year that he doesn't sleep during the day and when they scoffed at me I secretly thought 'they'll find out in time'. Hurricanes don't sleep.

With the 2 boys and I home, we set up the Hungry Hippos game. Great fun. I can just see those really little white balls that the Hippos eat  having a very short life span in our house. By bedtime, the head count had already gone from 20 balls to 14. So we have another 2 days worth of balls left I would say with those odds. I went to work and daddy and the 2 boys jumped on the trampoline for most of the time I was working. I know because all I heard was the laughter and the jumping and the "More daddy" as daddy jumped them really high. So come dinner both boys were extremely hot, tired and over stimulated but they managed to eat something. Once the boys were bathed and had had heaps more food, I read and read and read to them. We read and sang nursery rhythms. It was great fun. My favourite one is 'Monkeys on the bed'. Brandon asked me to read another nursery rhythm to him and I said that I knew the words and could sing it to him just before he went to bed. As I started to sing he put his hands over his ears and refused to listen to me. On principal I finished the song and told him that was rude. He got very cranky at me and hid under his quilt and told me that he didn't want me to look at him. All because I sang the song. Oh well I wasn't sticking around. So I pulled the quilt back from his face and told him to make sure that he could always breath with some fresh air. He grabbed the quilt and covered himself over again and that was about 1 hour ago.

Tomorrow Brandon has karate and then both boys have haircuts. Thanks to my car and the lovely sunshine, Brandon now has some clean underpants to wear tomorrow. That means I won't need to wash any tonight, hopefully.
