The Many Faces Of Our Children.

Today I had many different titles to label my post because the 2 boys did and said some of the most momentous and hilarious things that I have ever encountered. The pivotal point that made today such a raging success was my ability to approach the day with a just go with it attitude. It also helped that I wasn't working today so I didn't have that pressure of having to get everything all ready for work.  Everything just went so well.

Today started off with Brandon becoming attached to one of 3 red cushions that we have. I still don't understand why he had this special connection with this 1 red cushion, but then there are so very many things that I will never understand about kids. Other observations from today's activities as to the mystery of kids also included; why a basket of clean folded washing is a magnet for 2 little boys bottoms, why a 2 year old has to wear a pair of daddy's socks on his hands, and then why a 2 year old removes socks only to replace them with gloves on a hot day before proceeding to garden with them on. Other rather important observations involved; why living in a spacious house means that everyone has to be within a 1 metre radius of each other, and how a small piece of chocolate Easter Egg can possibly cover so much of one small child. Questions that I truly don't think that I will ever find the answers to.

As I remained pondering, we moved on to Brandon's Karate class. Now that red cushion found its way into the car and there it stayed sitting comfortably on Brandon's lap every time he got in the car. Brandon was great at Karate. He appeared to have a fantastic time. He punches the punching bag really well. There was even a few new kids there today so all the current kids were a bit excited. Bailey stayed pretty close to me today while Brandon had his class. Today he didn't actually run his standard 5 kilometres while I attempted to watch Brandon. I was very proud of both the boys.

When we jumped back into the car I asked Brandon what is it with this red cushion and he responded by telling me that "it's going everywhere with me today". Quite obviously it did just that. The 2 boys and I came home and refuelled before tentatively racing out the door again to the hairdressers. I wasn't completely convinced that the kid's had an appointment but we showed up anyway. Low and behold - they didn't so we went to jump back in the car to find that a big delivery truck had just blocked us in. I didn't really care because I had the DVD player in the car for the boys and I was happy to write a shopping list. But after 1 minute the truck driver moved and away we went.

The 2 boys and I ducked into the supermarket to get some fruit and bread. I was having withdrawal symptoms from not having any fruit since yesterday so we stocked up. I bought the kids a little Easter Egg each and well surprise surprise they ended up wearing most of it on their clothes and their face rather than digesting it. Unless they thought that if they smeared it all over their faces it would somehow be absorbed into their stomach quicker. Again, who understands the logic. They just enjoyed it. 2 minutes after leaving the shops and sitting in the confines of a car, the 2 boys went crazy. I came to the conclusion that the chocolate had suddenly arrived to their brains. So I just ran with it. Neither boy slept. We ended up making a pit stop before arriving home. Bailey was covered in chocolate (see picture) so I pulled over to the side of the road, undid his seat belt, plopped him by the side of the car, and of course Brandon had to jump out of his seat as well to be involved, and there I proceeded to wash all the chocolate off Bailey. We ran out of nappy wipes so I resorted to washing Bailey with the water in his drink bottle. Brandon was beside himself with laughter. They both were chocolate delirious and now rolling with laughter. I joined in too. We must have looked quite ridiculous for anyone passing us by.

We eventually made it home. Then the 2 boys found mud. It took them not even 30 seconds. We were all outside playing in the backyard, I opened the back door, reached inside to grab a huge dump truck previously thrown to the door, and when I turned back the boys had mud. Brandon had turned the hose on and Bailey had dug a hole. Together they had mud. I told them it was too early in the day for mud, which as I said it I knew must have sounded ridiculous. Logistically there's not a bad time for mud that suddenly ticks into a good time for mud. So we had mud for the next 4 hours and we had a lot of it. The 2 boys in mud very soon became 2 boys and their mummy in mud. At some point I questioned to myself why I had more mud on me than they collectively did on themselves. Daddy arrived home at that point where nudity for the 2 boys prevailed. So the first images daddy had of our activities for the day involved 2 boys jumping nude on the trampoline covered in mud while I had the hose on them trying to somehow wash some part of the mud off them as they squealed in sheer delight upon my challenge.

And that's how our whole afternoon went. The boys wouldn't let me out of their sight all afternoon and evening. It was "Mummy, mummy, mummy" and that's OK with me because we did have a very good day but I can't wait for the Easter Holidays coming up soon so that daddy has the chance to carry on with us as well. The boys ate and ate dinner and fell asleep straight away. Bingo to mud. Bailey couldn't resist finishing the evening without covering his face with food one last time before bed.  Well done sweetheart.

PS: here's the reason why daddy and I do so much washing!

And these are my feet. I just had to join the boys.
