I'd Like A Farm

My husband and I were talking about having more space this afternoon when we both had a light bulb moment. We have been so busy trying to work out how to create more space in the house that we have by extending up or building a big room into the absolutely ridiculously huge amount of roof space we have, when the idea of having a little farm just emerged. Certainly not a farm with animals because I really don't think that I can take care of any more craziness, but simply a little farm/acreage where we can plant heaps of fruit trees and an enormous veggie garden and just have a little weekender on it. It would give the kids a big space to run around in and we could always get some proper quad bikes for them. We could build a big tree house. Inspired, I got onto the Internet and started looking at property, not that I need any excuse. Very tempting.

This morning it was freezing. In fact the whole day was alarmingly icy, although it is now winter so to be expected. Hopefully my parents haven't frozen into Popsicles while travelling the Australian outback. Hi mum and dad. Our cold day started very early, even before it was light. We still managed to rush out the door for kindy karate at 9am. Both boys were so very good. Brandon did etremelly well at karate and Bailey did extremely well at sticking with me while we watched Brandon. Even when I had to get up and hold the punching bag for Brandon, Bailey stuck with me or continued to keep drawing. When Brandon was punching with his elbows (mimicking what he would do if someone ever grabbed him from behind) Bailey wanted to do it too. Every time the instructor reminded the kids to respond with "Yes Sir!" Bailey would yell "Yes Sir!". I have such good kids.

We came straight home from karate because we had a builder coming around to give us a quote on building in our roof space. Once he had come and gone the 2 boys and I were nice and toasty in our house, and because it was just so darn freezing outside I wasn't really keen to venture out. After lunch, and then consuming more food and watching more Ben 10 on DVD, I did take the 2 boys out to the local supermarket to get a few things. $50.00 later and me shaking my head in astonishment, the 2 boys and I departed. Home we came where we spent the afternoon playing and talking and talking. Daddy arrived home with great fanfare and Brandon and Bailey went crazy.

The afternoon flew by. Daddy had a massage booked in so he departed while I cooked the boys dinner. Mind you it was only 4pm. Surely that wasn't too early to cook dinner for tired children? I thought about it for maybe a split second before I started cooking. For the first time in probably 2 months both boys sat down and ate dinner. I was so astonished that I took a photo to remember the occasion. As I was bathing the boys, daddy arrived home and was thrown straight into the momentum. I read and read and read and read what truly must have been nearly ever single book under our roof, before finally the boys headed off to sleep. I was walking out of Brandon's room and it was only 7pm. That's good. Now my husband has left the building again to go and get his hair cut. I tried to organise one for myself but unless I can find a hairdresser that will cut my hair while I'm sleeping, I don't really stand a chance. I'll try again tomorrow elsewhere.

Maybe I'll turn into a farmer with wild and woolly hair who has crazy children running around. Actually, I don't need to be a farmer to have the crazy children part. I could grow mangoes and oranges and avocados and lemons and fields of veggies. Fortunately, the 2 boys and I just planted a mango tree, an orange tree, a lemon tree, and some raspberry plants. I look forward to eating the fruits of my labour in time.
