The Adventures Of The Flying Shoe

Today I thought the 2 boys and I would have a slightly less active day today. Thought everyone needed a day of semi rest. Spent the morning swinging on the swings outside in the backyard for awhile. Just have to smile when I am outside swinging children and it's only 5:45am. At least Brandon slept until 5am today, unlike the 4am start we had yesterday.

Travelled down the street for a bit to a new park that was so new you could still smell the glue ( It only went up on Saturday). It is a great park and certainly much better than the park that had been there previously. The 2 boys and I were going along well. The boys were climbing and laughing and sliding down the pole or the slippery slide. But then Bailey's attention turned to the 2 ducks waddling towards us. Now where there is ducks there is water and where there is water Bailey likes to be. The new park no longer has any fencing around it so the lake's edge is about 3 metres from the playground. Small children can run very fast when there is wildlife and water involved. Scooping Bailey up while I regain my composure and let my heart sink back into my chest, we changed our location. Instead the 2 boys went in the other direction along the boardwalk to look at the swans. Everything is going great again until Bailey decides to throw a piece of his big red Lego block into the water. Of course that attracted every animal who lives in the lake to fly in and see what we had just thrown in. As I lent over the railing to assess the Lego's chance of retrieval, the next thing I hear is a big plop and Bailey has now also thrown one of his brand new shoes in. Ok so Lego I can leave behind if need be, but shoes are a different story. For future reference, swans and turtles will attempt to eat Thomas The Tank Engine sandals. My arms weren't long enough to rescue the shoes even with me lying face down on the boardwalk. At this stage people started walking past to see what I was doing. Bailey thinks it's hilarius to run with one shoe on and one shoe off- so he's off. I do think he waited until I was completely flat on the ground before he did a runner. He's off so I'm up and running and dragging Brandon along behind me. We got a broom from the nearby cafe. Wasn't too optimistic but that was all the lady behind the counter had. At this stage something was better than nothing. Was too worried I would drop the broom into the lake and then have to find some way of scooping that out of the water too. Gave the 2 boys very strict instructions to stay completely still while I climbed into the dense bushes to find a very big stick with a bit of a hook on the end. I actually found one. After several attempts I managed to fish up the flying shoe. The Lego just had to stay there. I put the shoe straight on Bailey's little foot, did it up tight and moved away from the water. What an adventure!

That shoe had an adventurous day. Later in the day it also ended up on Brandon's head. We came home soon after our ordeal (I needed a chance to recover) but not after reading a Toy Story book while in the car stationary in the car park. I am bombarded with some amazing requests on most days. Bailey slept for a very short period of time while Brandon and I made banana bread and more banana muffins. Obviously we had bananas that weren' good for eating, but were great for cooking. Will have to find some more recipes to put bananas in.

Once Bailey woke, the 2 boys and I all had lunch and then ventured outside to play for the afternoon. Eventually we got rained out, so heading back into the house we went and played with dinosaurs and cars in the toy room.

For dinner the boys had homemade pizza which they appeared to enjoy, although Bailey just wanted to eat some Thomas chocolates from his Christmas advent calender. There is only 4 chocolates left now of course. I went to work and let daddy do the baths and the reigning in of 2 small children. Bailey decided to wee in our bed while doing a nudie run. Very naughty and very cheeky.

The day was adventurous and fun. Who knows what item of Bailey's clothing will have it's own little adventure tomorrow, and as a result will incorporate me into it.
