Today was a day of great discoveries. It all started when daddy came inside this morning from hanging out washing and said that I should check out the caterpillars outside climbing the wall of the house. Curious but not really fazed I ventured outside. Let's just say I took 1 step outside and just about had a heart attack. Reflecting upon it I think I may have even given out a scream. The concrete ground was crawling with caterpillars. I couldn't even get to the back of the house to have a look at the caterpillars daddy had seen. I ran inside and grabbed some cockroach spray as that was all we had. Surely a cockroach spray could also be used as a caterpillar destroyer. I decided to come at the bugs from a different angle and it was at this stage that I made my 2nd great discovery for the day. Not only was the concrete crawling with caterpillars but so was the entire back walls of the house and the backyard. Every inch of backyard had caterpillars of various colours and shapes and sizes crawling. In fact there was so many caterpillars that they were crawling over each other. My skin is still shivering at the thought. Needless to say we suddenly have no grass. The grubs, obviously lawn grubs, have eaten every single blade of somewhat dodgy grass we had and have discriminatory left all the weeds behind. So I rang my parents to seek a possible drastic solution to our problem. And then I rang the local nursery. Thanks mum for the suggestion. Our diagnosis was confirmed and a possible treatment was confidently suggested. As long as nothing comes into the house until I can get to the nursery.
The other great discovery that we made today include: kids are very easily distracted. Although this is not a drastic discovery it just was quite prevalent today. We were all making a trip to the tip, and the garden shop, so I was going from room to room in our house finding things to chuck out or give to the Salvation Army. And then I came across some Christmas presents that silly Santa had forgotten to give to the 2 boys. Just what was he thinking!! So I had the pleasure of giving the 2 toys to the kids. Both of them were so distracted by the new toys they didn't realise that I was removing hoards of old toys from Brandon's bedroom cupboard not even 1/2 a metre from them. I had put a whole heap of old toys away just before Christmas to see if either of the boys missed them. They hadn't even noticed their absence so they were out of here. So for the next 30 minutes I removed copious amounts of toys right from under their noses.
My next great discovery for the day was that it rains here every time you step out of the car, as it did when we went to drop off toys at the Salvos. Then it stopped, then it rained again as we got out at the tip, then it so thoughtfully stopped as we departed. Then once we finally got to the garden shop it proceeded to bucket down, but we got the special spray for the bugs. Except now it's raining and obviously the treatments not recommended to proceed with until it stops. I'm sure it would if I just stayed in the car.
Two other great discoveries of the day that are of absolute benefit to me include: if 2 boys don't sleep during the day they are certainly asleep quicker at night and I can be doing my blog before 8pm. The other great discovery has just resulted in my dinner coming out of the oven - cooking dinner during the day guarantees that you'll actually have dinner. Yippee!!!
The first thing that daddy and I will be doing tomorrow will be eradicating lawn and house and concrete bugs. I took photos, on my lovely mum's suggestion but I am still so irked out by it all I just can't foster the ability to post the photos here. Instead here's a photo of the boy's lovely fruit salad. And it's still raining.
